Coconut Bulletproof Coffee Recipe
Coconut Bulletproof Coffee for Intermittent Fasting (My Personal Recipe)
When I first started intermittent fasting, mornings were the hardest part. Hunger would hit early, and plain black coffee didn’t always help. That’s when I started experimenting with a lighter version of bulletproof coffee using coconut-based fats instead of butter.
This version turned out to be much easier on my stomach and more sustainable long-term.
Why I Don’t Use Butter
Traditional bulletproof coffee uses butter or ghee, but I found it too heavy, especially in the morning. It sometimes caused slight bloating and felt difficult to digest.
Switching to coconut oil or unsweetened coconut milk made a noticeable difference.
- Lighter digestion
- No dairy-related discomfort
- Cleaner energy without heaviness
My Coconut Bulletproof Coffee Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup hot black coffee
- 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- OR 2–3 tablespoons unsweetened coconut milk
Instructions
- Brew fresh black coffee.
- Add coconut oil or coconut milk.
- Blend or stir well until smooth.
I personally adjust the amount depending on how I feel that day. On lighter days, I go with coconut milk. When I need more energy, I use coconut oil.
How It Affects My Fasting
After switching to this version, I noticed that my hunger dropped significantly. I could comfortably fast until lunch without thinking about food constantly.
Interestingly, my digestion also improved. I experienced less bloating, and my stomach felt more stable throughout the day.
Why Coconut Works Well (Simple Science)
Coconut oil contains medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), which are quickly converted into energy. Unlike heavier fats, they are easier to digest and may support ketosis.
This makes coconut-based coffee a practical option for people combining intermittent fasting with a keto-style diet.
Does This Break a Fast?
Technically, yes. Any calories can break a strict fast.
However, for fat loss and appetite control, this kind of coffee still works well because it keeps insulin response relatively low.
- For weight loss: Usually helpful
- For strict fasting goals: Better to skip
Tips From My Experience
- Start with a small amount of coconut oil to avoid stomach discomfort
- Always use unsweetened coconut milk
- Adjust fat amount depending on your energy needs
- Keep it simple — no sugar or syrups
Final Thoughts
You don’t have to follow the “classic” bulletproof coffee recipe exactly. Finding a version that works for your body is more important.
For me, switching to coconut oil and coconut milk made intermittent fasting much easier and more sustainable.
